New hire
My team has an open position for a new Software Engineer II. Last week, I joined a technical interview led by my Principal Engineer, testing a candidate’s Python programming knowledge. This candidate didn’t quite demonstrate the level of Python required for an SE2. However, the candidate came across as keen to learn and as someone we could train and easily work alongside. In the end, following discussions with the managers who conducted the previous interview, we all agreed to offer the position on the team as an SE1. Not the SE2 we originally recruited for, but a promising SE1 who could thrive with the mentoring and support that our team provides.
UPDATE: The offer was accepted; our new Software Engineer will be joining us next month!
