My first mechanical keyboard

Keychron Q4 mechanical keyboard and wooden palm rest

This is my new Keychron Q4 (UK-ISO version with brown switches). I’m using it with both my personal (MacBook M1 Pro, 14-inch) and work (MacBook M2 Pro, 16-inch) laptops.

As a professional programmer, the keyboard is one of the main tools of my craft. I’ve decided to upgrade my typing experience from using an Apple Magic Keyboard that was provided with my work laptop. Mechanical keyboards in particular caught my attention in videos where enthusiasts showcase their satisfying typing sounds. I can appreciate these details.

My criteria for a new keyboard included excellent compatibility with MacBooks, not being too expensive as this would be my first mechanical keyboard, and having a compact layout without unnecessary keys, e.g. as a Vim user, I prefer using “hjkl” keys instead of arrow keys.

After some research, I settled on the Keychron Q4. I’m thrilled with its build quality, feel, and sound. I love being a programmer and working on my craft just keeps getting more fun!
