Tech layoffs

Tech layoffs have made headlines for the last few years as companies aim to become leaner. Contributing factors apparently include overhiring during the pandemic, higher interest rates, and shifting priorities from growth to higher profits. Some believe improved AI is directly replacing jobs, but I think it’s more about offshore workers leveraging AI to be more productive in junior roles, making them increasingly profitable compared to local talent.

Recently, my company was also hit with layoffs. They decided to move more of the workforce to lower-cost areas, a trend of offshoring that I had previously observed in relation to The iron cross. I’m grateful to still be employed because I deeply enjoy the work I do here. I can only hope that the ones let go are able to quickly regain a sense of stability.
